A little bit about us... Our family has grown Chile in N.M. for over 40 years. Chile is to New Mexico what potatoes are to Idaho or peanuts to Georgia. New Mexico produces more chile than any other state, accounting for 60 percent of all chile pepper production in the United States.
My grandfather began his farm in early 1948 and purchased 7 acres of farm land in Lemitar, N.M. For about 10 years him and his uncle grew alfalfa and herded sheep on most of the land, leaving only 1 acre for chile. As the years went by, their chile grew popular in the state. In 1958 an adjacent 13 acres were purchased and so began the chile race. In the early 1980's my grandfather had grew his production to a total 40 acres of chile. Throughout the next 20 years, more competition began as New Mexico became known for there splended gourmet chile. New Mexico began to show off there new found commodity chile and now hosts chili cook offs and festivals every year.
My grandfather is retired and passed away Nov. 2011: however, his legacy continues. My name is Jake Gutierrez, I learned many things from my grandfather and uncles from planting chile in the fields to selling it. In 2009, Chile Boys began with a direct distribution to places like Arizona and California. We will continue to promote outside of New Mexico with new product lines to reach New Mexico Chile Fans across the USA with our Chile Jams, Chile Pods, and other products. We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service and quality of the New Mexico Chile industry.
